Winter Skills - Course Content
Use of an ice axe• Cramponing skills• Using the boot as a tool• Winter clothing and equipment.• Weather• Emergencies• Avalanche awareness• Negotiating steep ground
To some degree content will depend on weather and snow conditions and what skills people already have, but the day will incorporate a walk in using suitable venues on route to deliver sessions, and we may ascend a gulley, incorporating as much of the skills learning as possible. We use areas such as Brown Cove on Helvellyn or Red Screes near Kirkstone
Cost - Please contact me to discuss requirements and numbers (depending on group size there may be a 2nd instructor).
Dates – Mutually agreed but flexibility required in order to ensure conditions are suitable
Equipment - Helmets will be provided. Course attendees will require full waterproofs, plenty of warm clothing, and ice axe and crampons. Boots need to be stiff, suitable for winter walking and crampon compatible. If you do not have crampons and/or ice axe an option would be to hire them
